Another Way at New York climate week

“We can fundamentally change our story at a much faster pace than climate change”- Solitaire Townsend

“All the people building a better world are already here.”- Mark Haver

Over the last week, Another Way team members Amy and Olivia made the difficult decision to fly out to New York City for Climate Week. Our mission was to showcase the challenges that young changemakers face all across the world, and the importance of community in solving the climate crisis. Was it worth it? We think so.

We wanted to elevate young voices and create a campaign to highlight the inadequacy of global climate education. We also wanted to forge global collaborations and partnerships for the launch of our Power of 10 movement.

The week was an incredible reminder that fighting the climate crisis and creating a new world is a team effort, and that there are some amazing, beautiful people in that team from every corner of the world.

Amy said, “The dialogue of despair is over. Now, we are turning to the stories of hope and possibility. We are talking about psychology and how to change people’s hearts and minds for long-term paradigm shifts. Organisations are looking sideways, at how to engage people outside the echo chamber, through film, art and music. I didn’t realise how much other people were doing this until now, and it gives me so much hope.”

Some of our highlights included meeting Xiye Bastida, Clover Hogan and Dominique Palmer – our climate heroes! – a workshop run by the power team that is Earth Minutes and the university of Exeter on communicating positive tipping points, and a spontaneous climate rap by Hila the Earth on a panel discussion at Hope House. We also loved hearing insights from people and organizations like Netflix, Amazon Headwaters and the Youth Negotiators Academy and attending a vegan climate party with Symbiocene.

We interviewed amazing activists from every continent and we can’t wait to launch our content and campaigns on social media over the next few months. Our community gives us so much joy and hope, and we are so excited to share that with you too!
